WATCH: TRUCK ASSIST RACING TRANSPORTER BOARDS THE BOAT TO TASSIE
The photos and footage are flooding in as the Supercars transporters leave the mainland for Symmons Plains.
The logistics to go racing in the Supercars Championship are seriously impressive, and Tickford Racing has given us a glimpse into what goes into racing on the Apple Isle.
The Supercars transporters have been progressively crossing Bass Strait on SeaRoad ships in rough conditions this week. The Truck Assist Racing transporter was among the last to leave, arriving in Devonport earlier this morning before parking up at the track this afternoon.
The drivers have left their rigs at SeaRoad Shipping in Port Melbourne, flying to Tasmania, and then meeting their transporters in Devonport the following day.
Watch the Truck Assist Racing transporter board SeaRoad Mersey II below, and hear from its driver, Dave “Dodge” Aldridge.
“It’s a 180-metre-long ship, a couple of big engines at just under 20,000 horsepower,” said Aldridge. “The Mersey II has a hell of a lot more horsepower than our cars, but it goes a whole lot slower.”
“We’ll be over there Thursday morning parking up and ready to unload on Friday, getting ready for the weekend.”
The Beaurepairs Tasmania SuperSprint is the first time the Supercars have raced in Tasmania since early April 2019, with ongoing COVID-19 outbreaks and border closures putting an end to plans last year.
Our Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube accounts will be busy over the next few days as the trucks rumble to and from the northern Tasmanian circuit
