WATCH: SPEEDWAY TRANSPORTERS ARRIVE AT THE 2020 GRAND ANNUAL SPRINTCAR CLASSIC
It’s been a long time coming, but this footage is well worth a look
It's exactly 513 days since we hit the Princess Highway in Western Victoria to record some sprintcar transporters arriving at the biggest event on the Australian speedway calendar. But better late than never, right?
Over the weekend, we finally found some long lost footage captured in the lead-up to night two of the 2020 Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic at Premier Speedway in Warrnambool. Long story short, this footage ended up in the digital abyss on an old computer which we fired up in search of more content to keep the YouTube algorithm fed.
It’s also a time capsule to a much simpler time where sprintcar teams travelled freely between Australian states and thousands walked through the gates without checking in or social distancing.
We captured this footage in the lead-up to the second night of competition, which saw plenty of big-name teams and flashy transporters show up to the Allensville bullring. From Bunbury’s Diamond Bay Motorsport to Queensland-based McHugh Motorsport to Bordertown’s Wayne Rowett Motorsport, these race transporters travelled far and wide to duke it out at the Classic.
You can watch all the footage below.
Monte Motorsport’s James McFadden took the honours the following night, which was his second win at the revered event and the team’s eighth.
The Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic is set to return in January 2022, and we’ll be roadside to catch all the rigs coming in again. Hurry up, Southern Hemisphere summer!
