VICTORIAN SUPERCARS TRANSPORTERS LEAVE MELBOURNE AS COVID-19 OUTBREAK CONTINUES

Most of Victoria’s Repco Supercars Championship teams and transporters hit the Hume Freeway today in another exodus out of Melbourne

As Victoria recorded 11 new cases of COVID-19 today, Melbourne’s Supercars teams began leaving their bases ahead of next month’s Merlin Darwin Triple Crown.

Many of the rigs hit the Hume Freeway early in the afternoon, and they’ll all be in New South Wales by Wednesday.

The Victorian-based teams include Tickford Racing, Walkinshaw Andretti United, Blanchard Racing Team, Team 18, Kelly Grove Racing and Erebus Motorsport. It also involves the Dunlop Motorsport operation and its B-Double rig, as well as Dandenong South-based RaceFuels.

The next Repco Supercars Championship event is over 3700 kilometres from Melbourne, with the Merlin Darwin Triple Crown scheduled to begin on Friday June 18. That gives the teams enough leeway to isolate for two weeks and enter the Northern Territory in time to unload at Hidden Valley.

We’re reminded again of the sacrifices the Supercars teams continue to make as COVID-19 outbreaks occur across Australia, and we wish the Victorian personnel and their families the best as they head away from home again.

To all our fellow Victorians, please stay safe and seek help if you’re having a hard time in lockdown.
