The second round of the 2021 FIA European Truck Racing Championship was scheduled for last weekend at the Nürburgring in Western Germany. And Europe’s premier truck racing teams had already commenced their trips to the world-famous circuit early in the week.

However, record rainfall in region led to devastating flooding in Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands. This led to the cancellation of the weekend’s truck racing, with all attention on the hundreds injured and thousands directly affected by the severe weather.

The tankpool24 squad had already made its way to the Nürburgring, and witnessing the devastation from the flooding, turned attention to helping the local communities. And their response was twofold.

Klaus Kiunke, managing director of tankpool24 GmbH, donated to the Ahrweiler district on behalf of the company and the racing team.

But they weren’t finished there.

The team’s race truck driver, Steffan Faas, headed back to base, cleared out the team transporter and then with donations from the team’s sponsors, filled it up with food, hygiene items and tools. He brought back a total of 4.5 tons of beverages, 2.5 tons of food in cans and glasses and several hundred kilograms of sanitary items.

The team was also supported by TV star in the trucking world, Christina Scheib, with her Scania prime mover known as Bella hauling more essential supplies to the affected areas.

In a Facebook post on Wednesday, tankpool24 Racing thanked its donors including Association Hope and Help from the Black Forest, Untere Kapfenhardter Mühle, HORNBACH, EDEKA Eitel, Müller Fleisch GmbH, Pharmacy im Arlinger, among others.

And it’s not just Tankpool24 doing their bit to help those affected. Team Hahn Racing is also collecting items to deliver to flood-stricken areas, with an appeal for essential items which they’ll take to the Nürburgring next week.

Our thoughts are with all those who have lost family members and friends in the flooding, as well as those that have lost their homes and livelihoods.
