SPOTTED: MOTOGP RACE TRANSPORTERS AT SILVERSTONE

Here’s a glimpse of the trucks and transporters that make the MotoGP, Moto2 and Moto3 spectacle possible all over Europe

The MotoGP roadshow continues to thrill trackside fans and television viewers in 2021, with epic on-track battles between the gladiators of two-wheel motorsport.

It’s all about the bikes on Sunday afternoon, but none of the action could happen without the dedicated race transporters that carry the equipment between every European round of the championship.

British truck photographer, Lucy Sames, made her way to Silverstone to capture some of the MotoGP team transporters waiting outside the Towcester circuit ahead of the 2021 British Grand Prix. And it offers a unique glimpse of the spectacular rigs with many more wheels than the race bikes.

The Repsol Honda squad running the RC213V Honda pair of Marc Marquez and Pol Espargaro depends on two IVECO S-WAY prime movers and race trailers. You can see the transporter for Pol Espargaro’s entry below.

The KTM Factory Racing MotoGP squad is linked with German truck manufacturer, MAN, to cart the KTM RC16 entries of Brad Binder and Miguel Olivera with a trio of MAN TGX prime movers.

Also pulling a pair of KTM RC16 race bikes is this fluorescent orange Renault T-High combination belonging to Tech3 KTM Factory Racing. The trailers behind them carry all the equipment to support the championship campaigns of Danilo Petrucci and Iker Lecuona.

Aprilia Team Gresini is powered by a pair of new Mercedes-Benz Actros lorries; one being an 1845 model, and the other an 1843 model. The equipment inside the trailers supports the Aprilia RS-GP bikes of Aleix Espargaro and Lorenzo Savadori, though Maverick Vinales is set to replace the latter from the Aragon Grand Prix onward.

Lucy also captured two rigs belonging to teams in the Moto2 category, including the Sky Racing VR46 IVECO Stralis that hauls the Kalex bikes of Celestino Vietti and Marco Bezzecchi, and the NTS RW Racing GP DAF XF transporter that pulls the race trailer for the NH7 bikes of Hafizh Syahrin and Barry Baltus.

To round out the truck spotting from Silverstone, we also got a glimpse of two rigs from the Moto3 paddock. The first of these is the Renault Magnum-led hauler for the race bikes of Deniz Öncü and Ayumu Sasaki, and the second is the Scania 540 S transporter of Petronas Sepang Racing Team. Inside the trailer of the latter is the Honda NSF250RW bikes for Darryn Binder and Syarifuddin Azman.

After the engines fell quiet at Silverstone on Sunday, the teams turned their attention to their next trip to Aragon in Spain. The drivers will put another 1000 miles on the odometers of their prime movers, with two more European rounds scheduled before the equipment heads to Austin, Texas.
