HONING IN ON PETER BROCK'S AEROLINER
We were thrilled with the response to last Thursday’s feature article on Peter Brock's experimental Ford Aeroliner which triggered many comments about one of the nine-time Bathurst 1000 winner’s lesser-known automotive pursuits.
After posting the article on the Trucks at Tracks Facebook page, we received multiple responses that shed light on both the Ford Louisville itself and the working life of the truck after hauling the Mobil-1 Ford Sierra and its spare parts to race tracks around Australia. Comments from both the late Peter Brock’s older brother, Phil Brock and Pete Mcervale affirmed that the truck went on to work for Kalari in Portland, Victoria, upon Brock's association with the Noske family.
Intrigued at the thought of the unique Ford Louisville still hauling freight in 2017, we contacted Kalari to find out whether it was still traversing the roads of Western Victoria. Kalari was kind enough to send through a photo of the truck in October of 1992. It still looked in pretty good shape then, but that was no guarantee of its survival to this day.
The responses continued to roll in. However, more recent information was hard to come by. That was, until a comment from Mark Carlyon propelled the search forward once more. It turns out that M&C Carlyon Transport owned the truck from 1994 to 2002 and Mark believes that the truck may not only still exist, but be currently listed for sale online! More to come in relation to that as we investigate how you may be able to attain a piece of Australian automotive and motorsport history.
A big thank you once again to everyone who has pitched in during our search thus far. Once again, if you have any further information about the whereabouts of Peter Brock’s Aeroliner, please get in touch with Trucks at Tracks on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram.
