PENRITE RACING SWITCHES FROM MAN TO MERCEDES

A fresh European prime mover for the Melbourne Supercars outfit.

Penrite Racing is running a Mercedes Benz Actros in 2020 thanks to a partnership with Brisbane-based transport company, Griffith Corporation.

Griffith Corporation is a growing transport company run by Mark Griffith. If that name sounds familiar, it’s because Griffith has competed in a range of motorsport categories from Australian GT to the Australian Production Car Championship.

The connection between Penrite Racing and Griffith dates back to Phillip Island in 2016, when team owner Betty Klimenko lent Griffith a spare Mercedes SLS GT3 car so he could compete the following day after suffering an accident.

Griffith clearly never forgot that gesture.

Late last year, Penrite Racing boss, Barry Ryan, picked up the phone and asked Griffith for some help acquiring a new prime mover. Shortly after, the deal was struck.

The brand-new Matte Black Mercedes is the 51st ordered by Griffith Corporation in five years, and it’s got plenty of fruit to help carry the Penrite Commodores to and from the track safely.

“It’s a brand-new truck with a camera system, no side mirrors,” explained Griffith. “Therefore, you have to be retrained to not use side mirrors on the outside of the truck, rather a camera system with a TV like screen on the inside of the door pillars.”

Barry Ryan commented on the eminence of the new rig in the Supercars paddock.

“We now have arguably the best prime mover in Supercars with Griffith Corporation on the side of the truck and cars.

“We will work with Mark to provide experiences for his key clients and ensure he sees a benefit from working with our team.”

The Penrite Racing B-Double is coming to a track near you soon, and you won’t miss the Griffith Corporation signage on both sides of the truck up front.
