BACK IN STAX. PAUL EDDY RETURNS TO SUPERCARS

Stax Freightliner fans, the man who started it all has the keys to the old steed again.

Paul Eddy returns to Supercars duties at Sydney Motorsport Park this weekend. And yes, he will be driving the team’s bright yellow Freightliner Coronado!

Last seen in Supercars at the 2017 season finale in Newcastle, Paul has been busy hauling everyday freight, rather than millions of dollars in racing equipment.

Paul began transitioning back into motorsport at the beginning of this year, initially driving the Brad Jones Racing Super 2 Series transporter.

And then, as COVID-19 stopped top-level motorsport in its tracks, the opportunity arose for him to step back into the Supercars main game post-shutdown.

“It was kind of a shock to be honest, I'd spoken to the other guys and as far as I knew, they were coming back,” said Paul.

“I've really only done one round since returning to motorsport, but it was good to be back. 2020 has been a strange one, but I’m enjoying being back at Brad Jones Racing. They're a great bunch of guys.”

We couldn’t help but to ask whether we’ll see Paul posting on the Stax Freightliner social media pages again. And while he hasn’t yet asked about accessing the accounts, it sounds like we’ll be seeing photos from his camera lens shortly.

“I started the Stax Freightliner pages to show everyone that the job is more than you see on TV. It’s a big show. And so as long as people are still interested in seeing what we do, I'll keep on posting. I do enjoy taking photos!”

There’s a lot more to Paul’s job than driving the transporter and keeping it presentable. Like the other Supercars truck drivers, he’s responsible for managing the Albury outfit’s allotment of Dunlop race tyres, and plays a key role in pit stops.

So, with all that on Paul’s plate, is he looking forward to this weekend’s return to racing in Sydney?

“It's going to be interesting to see how it all goes, but I'm looking forward to going racing again, driving Stax and doing pitstops. It’s just a shame that there's no crowd, because I don't mind taking to race fans!”

You can follow Paul’s journeys on Facebook and Instagram.
