FOR SALE: EX-MCLAREN VOLVO TRUCKS
It’s not quite an MCL35M chassis, but this is some McLaren Racing history worth owning
Chequebooks at the ready. Eight Volvo prime movers used by McLaren Racing during the 2020 and 2021 Formula 1 seasons are up for sale.
Volvo Trucks UK confirmed this high-profile sale in a post on their Facebook page on Saturday, and it attracted plenty of likes, comments and shares from F1 fans, transport owners and truck enthusiasts alike.
These trucks were part of a big delivery to the Woking squad at the start of the disrupted 2020 F1 season. Volvo Trucks handed over the keys to no less than 24 brand-new Volvo FH Globetrotter XL tractor units ahead of last year’s season opener in Austria.
The Volvo FH fleet has pulled McLaren’s gear to all the European rounds of the 2020 and 2021 F1 seasons. That might sound like a lot, but they’ve barely clocked up 50,000 kilometres in two years on the F1 circuit. These Volvos should have plenty of life in them before they’ll need any major maintenance.
According to the Facebook post, a total of eight trucks are up for sale, including six Volvo FH 540 and two Volvo FH 500 left-hand drive 4x2 tractor units.
They’ve got all the fruit, too. Driver comforts include the Globetrotter XL cab, full leather interiors, fridge-freezers, microwaves and even coffee makers. And once that morning coffee is in the cup holder, there are lots of driver aids including Volvo’s Dynafleet fleet management suite, a tyre pressure monitoring system, TomTom navigation, advance cruise control, lane keeping assist and lane changing support.
If you’re interested in owning one of these ex-McLaren prime movers, you’ll need to let Volvo Trucks UK know. You can call them on 0844 579 1210, or drop them a message on their Facebook page. And while they haven’t provided a price, the F1 association means they probably won’t come cheap.
The partnership between McLaren Racing and Volvo Trucks extends back to February of 2016, and it was renewed in 2019. The current partnership expires at the end of this year, and neither party has announced whether there’ll be a third all-new fleet of Volvo trucks in McLaren colours, or whether the frontrunning team will partner with a different manufacturer or logistics provider in 2022.
